The Return of a Pilgrimage

Since 2019 the Layene community have been unable to take part in their yearly pilgrimage in Dakar because of Covid-19 restrictions. This years pilgrimage saw more people then ever come to Dakar to take part .

 

Each year thousands of Layene Muslim community followers embark on a pilgrimage from the birth place of the Layene community in Camberene and finishing at the Sacred recollection Cave in Ngor. – Thousands of followers of the Layene Sufi Muslim brotherhood gathered in Dakar praying together under large sun shades chanting in unison before making the four mile walk to the sacred sea cave in Ngor where it is believed that Limamou Laye, the founder of the community was said to have woken after 1000 years of the death of Mohammed.
