Guy Peterson is a British freelance photojournalist represented by Panos Pictures based in Dakar, Senegal, covering West Africa. Guy regularly strings for AFP (Agence France Presse) across West Africa and contributes to The Washington Post, De Volkskrant, The Guardian, The Christian Science Monitor, NPR and Al Jazeera as well as for notable NGO’s such as Save The Children and The World Health Organisation.
Prior to moving to West Africa, Guy graduated from Falmouth University with a first class honours in Marine and Natural History Photography. His work focuses on documenting politics, climate change, humanitarian crisis, migration, human interest and conflict across the Sahel and West Africa. He has experience working in South Sudan, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Niger, as well as Ukraine.
Guy’s impactful work on human rights abuses in Guinea-Bissau’s drug rehabilitation centers was recently nominated for the Amnesty Human Rights Media Awards in 2024. As part of an investigation into the supply chain of super market salmon in the UK with a team from the Financial Times Guy’s work was also given an honourable mention in the Kevin Carmody Award for outstanding investigative reporting at the Society of Environmental Journalists annual awards.
Guy is currently based in Senegal and available for assignments across Africa.
